Massachusetts Ballot Question 2 in the November 2024 election proposes eliminating the requirement for high school students to pass the 10th-grade MCAS exam to graduate. Currently, students need to pass the MCAS to receive a diploma. If passed, the new measure would allow local school districts to set their own graduation criteria, eliminating a state-wide standard for graduation.

Currently, 25% of all students in Massachusetts are Latino, and Latino students are the fastest growing population in our schools, meaning Question 2 will have a major impact on our students. Unfortunately, Latino voices have been largely ignored in the debate surrounding the ballot measure.
