Armando X. Orduña, Ed.D. Joins Latinos for Education Houston to Strengthen Programming and Partnership Work

HOUSTON, TXLatinos for Education announced Armando Orduña, Ed.D. as the organization’s Managing Director of Leadership Programs and Partnerships for Greater Houston. Orduña will oversee, manage, and implement the Latino Board Fellowship and Aspiring Latino Leaders Fellowship, lead the organization’s partnerships efforts, and support Latinos for Education’s external affairs in the Greater Houston area.

Orduña has over 23 years of experience in education, with a particular expertise in the intersectionality of STEAM access for immigrant youth and families, and the role practical STEAM learning plays in foreign language acquisition. Before joining Latinos for Education, Orduña served as the Director of Outreach Programs for Children’s Museum Houston where he led a department of educators in the expansion of multilingual family and Out-of-School Learning programs throughout Greater Houston. Orduña also served as a secondary school Science teacher in urban,Title I public schools.

“I have long considered myself a student of the human condition and how the transformative power of education when matched with opportunity can radically reengineer failed systems to elevate our shared condition as collectives and individuals,” said Armando Orduña, Ed.D. “Through the persistent pursuit of this ideal, we can dream to arrive at the final stage of our societal evolution–We become hope.”

Orduña was an inaugural Houston board fellow with Latinos for Education; a board member of Connect Community—Purpose Built Communities; the board president of the Emmy Saenz Foundation; an inaugural member of the Teacher Advisory Council for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; curriculum writer for Twin Cities Public Television, and board member of the East Education Project. In 2012, Orduña received the Commitment to Excellence Award, President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
