Dr. Jessica Huizenga Joins Latinos For Education to Grow Leadership and Fellowship Programs in New England
Boston, MA – Latinos for Education announced today that Dr. Jessica Huizenga has joined the organization as a Managing Director in New England. Under her guidance, Latinos for Education will continue to oversee and manage local leadership and fellowship programs designed to build a pipeline of education leaders that directly impact student outcomes. Dr. Huizenga will work closely with alumni from these programs to support their professional development and connect them to opportunities where they can continue to broaden their influence in the education sector.
“As a long time school administrator, I have seen first-hand the level of inequity and disparity that exists in our public schools in educating students of color. I strongly believe that my role here is to create pathways and multiple opportunities by which educators, children, and families are empowered and equipped to achieve excellent educational outcomes,” said Dr. Jessica Huizenga. “To me, education is a human right that all students are entitled to, and I’m eager to join Latinos for Education in ensuring that Latino students are able to get the education they deserve.”
Dr. Huizenga spent 24 years of her career in public education, serving in various roles as a classroom teacher, Department Chair, Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and as a Superintendent of school districts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Throughout her career, she focused on ensuring high quality and equitable instruction for students, and the school districts she led saw improvements in student performance and success.
As an adjunct faculty member at Gordon College, Dr. Huizenga taught courses covering school law, curriculum, instruction and assessment, and prepared future educators and leaders for service in public education. Dr. Huizenga also holds a Master of Arts in Education, and her Doctorate in Leadership in Schooling from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell. She also holds an Advanced Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University.
